My, Myself and I

One of my favorite things to do when I'm by myself in the car is CRANK up MY music - I love that I don't have anyone else in my car telling me to play the firetruck song or Between the Lions! I can listen to whatever I want and it's a small highlight of my day! So yesterday I was in the car (by myself) heading home from our doctor's appt. We heard baby #3's precious heartbeat for the first time - and even though we'd SEEN it several times on ultrasound, there is just nothing like that sound. I don't care if it's the first time or the trillionth time - just nothing like that sound!

So on the way home, I'm already in a great mood because of the good news at the doctor, Robby is behind me in his car and we have a great homemade dinner waiting at home (another rarity for us since I don't love to cook!) BUT...all this to say....I'm just about to get on 400 and I hear this song....from Benny & Joon - Are you kidding me? Definitely was one of my favorites back in the day and I didn't know the minivan could rock so hard!

Here are some pics of my boys from the beach - don't have a lot of great pics but hoping my sister will share some!

Fathers

So I didn't get to discuss Fathers Day since we were at the beach but we had a great day! My mom, sister and I made a special breakfast for the dads in our life and it was nice! I had pictures of the boys taken for Robby and they turned out great! Here is the link if anyone is interested in viewing (and I HIGHLY recommend the photographer - Sara Ippolitto)

Today is my own dad's birthday (June 22nd) and he would've been 64. Since he died at the early age of 46 I feel like i hardly knew him! I'm not usually one to remember or celebrate days that are of the past (loved ones gone birthdays, anniversaries, date of death) because all of that seems a little pointless to me. But I don't know why for some reason his birthday today has really stayed with me all day. I don't know if it's because we just got back from the beach with our own two boys and watching them with their own dad, or thinking the entire time how thankful I am that my parents kept our family vacation a tradition each summer. I'm thankful to my dad for so many things and just crave and miss out on that adult father/daughter relationship with him. I long for the day when I can sit and catch up for an eternity.

So here's to Fathers Day and all that means to me....to the one I've lost and for the wonderful husband/father I've gained!

Vacation...all I ever wanted!

So we are headed to the beach tomorrow and I can't believe how much preparation it takes to get four people packed for a week at the beach. I think I can say my kids are getting easier as far as what we need to take for them...no more highchair, exersaucer, pack n play, etc. (until next year at least!!!) but they still have to take their life vests, noodles, dumptrucks, whole thing of toys, dvd's, you get the picture. It's ALOT of work to get this organized (and I'm not an organized person) and all put together to leave at 9 am - yeah right!

So tonight I started packing the boys in one suitcase - and let me just preface it by saying today my children, especially the youngest, challenged me on so many levels and not in a good way. Today was one of those days where if you drank wine, you'd want a big glass at the end of the day, if you smoked - you'd want a cigarette (I don't even know how to spell that one!), if you're a runner, you'd go for a long run. So it had been that kind of day and I'm exhausted, grumpy and not in the mood for games with the kids (while daddy is letting them splash like crazy in the bath! -Thank goodness for daddies!) So back to the packing - I've got everything in rows in the suitcase - Little man's stack of nice clothes, stack of bathing suits and hats, stack of pajamas, etc. and then I've done the same type of stacks for numero uno. Well, numero uno is walking around the house taking pictures with his camera - an old one that daddy gave him - so I've gotten their bag entirely packed and ready except for a few things to insert in the morning and I'm in my closet starting on my own bag when he (this precious 3 year old) comes and asks me where he can put his camera to take to the beach. I tell him to go open his suitcase in his room and place it in there which he thinks is a great idea! So a few minutes later, he comes back to me and says something about he dumped all the clothes on the floor but it's okay mom, because he put them all back - ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I tried to remain calm but I was done for the day - I looked at him - still calm and said "sweetie, I hope you are teasing me right now" to which he replies "no mom, but it's okay! I put them all back!" I go to inspect the situation and he has tried to "bring" me the suitcase so it's in the hall and everything is NOT put back and what is put back is literally thrown into the suitcase - no more neat stacks, no more separated by child - deep breath in, deep breath out. I managed to put the little man to bed and come back to this and I had calmed down but once I sat down to redo this bag, i got so bugged all over again!!! Needless to say, I've completely refolded everything and we are good to go!

I have a newfound respect for my parents - which I think happens many times over when you become a parent yourself! But all those years of family vacations where I did nothing but got in the car - I couldn't be more thankful for those now even though I completely took them for granted then! I don't want to complain and moan and have that be all my kids remember! I want them to just remember getting in the car and having great memories each year at the beach with their family. Lord, please grant me patience!

So our journey in the car (which is an entire "journey" in itself!) begins tomorrow at 9 am. Plenty of turning around, handing back drinks, food, toys, books, paci's, cars, etc....Lord, please grant me patience! This too shall pass and I know I'll miss these days! Help me to cherish every moment and not take one for granted. Help me to enjoy this year with just my TWO boys at the beach before we bring another member into this family and my time is shared between three. Help me to enjoy a vacation for what it is....just that, a vacation....even though at times, I feel like it's just another location!

I'll post pictures when we return! Happy week to all!

So you think you can dance!!!!

IS BACK ON!!!

One of my favorite things to do after I get my kids in bed (usually with a glass of wine - but not these days!!) is sit and watch So you think you can dance! If you have never seen it - I promise you will love it and you will forever be done with Dancing with the Stars when you see how people can REALLY dance! I tried to find a video from last night but Joshua and Katee did a number about a boyfriend leaving for war the next day and it was amazing!

So I know I'm a nerd and instead of making my child's lunch for his camp today - I'm down here googling SYTYCD...I guess now would be the time to tell you that I also went to the live show two years ago? Don't think differently about me!!!!

For those of you watching or not watching - here are my four favorites: (althought Courtney didn't do very well last night!)

Hot Child in the City!!!

Listen people - I'M HOT! So much so that I have a total writer's block! I heard this song today while pumping my $4.00/per gallon gas (which also makes me hot!!! MAD HOT!!!) and I thought "this is my theme song!!!

I don't mean to be a complainer but the truth of the matter is I've taken two pregnancies throught the SMOLDERING heat in their third trimesters and I swear it's nothing like the heat I'm feeling with this pregnancy in my first trimester!!! Maybe it has to do with the fact I'm lugging the older two around while carrying this one but it's exhausting!

So I'll try to be more positive and have some upbeat things but right now I got nothing -

Signed
Hot Child in the City

P.S. Here is a pic of me waiting for Andrew to get here holding Lawson back in July of '06- and I can't even describe how hot it was in this picture - I'm no stranger to pregnancies in the summer - Lawson came August 22nd...

It's time for a new blog.....

Dontcha think? Sorry I haven't posted lately but this week has been super crazy - I lost my husband to a long guys weekend and was SO THANKFUL to have him back today! Lawson kept having these meltdowns and I really think it's because he didn't know how to show his emotions that he missed DADDY!!! So we were all so happy to see him!

I believe trips like that are so good for everyone involved (even as I couldn't stop crying on Thursday...I blame it on the hormones!) - it helps each one appreciate the other! Robby (while I'm sure had a blast!) probably missed his kids at night and hopefully his wife!! And probaby was glad that his single days are over! Bars can only be so much fun!

And I totally missed everything he does for me - including laundry, dinner, kids, everything - he has literally taken over while I've been so sick. I've also missed his companionship even if it's sitting watching tv and saying NOTHING - I don't care! I love having him with me. I told my mom I'd rather have a bad day with him than a good day without him. Like I've said before on this blog, I've made some crappy decisions in my life but marrying him was not one of them!

Speaking of marrying - he went to Hilton Head with the five guys that were in our wedding....here is a pic of all of them! They are such wonderful friends to Robby and I'm so thankful for that!

Back to the everday tomorrow - Lawson is starting soccer so you better believe I'll be posting a picture of him on his first day! What if he turns into the next David Beckham?
